our opinion

"Fabulous activities, great food, unique culture and the odd bear and whale sighting dropped in for good measure - our holiday in Quebec Province is quite special.  The highlight of my visit was the sea kayaking in Saguenay as we were very lucky and spotted some whales - they are so majestic up close and I was desperate to get out in the Zodiac later that day to see them again.  It was truly one of the highlights of any trip I've been on!"  Stephanie Eddy

agenda

Day 1

Flights & transfers

Upon arrival in Montreal we will be greeted by our guide and transferred directly to Mont Tremblant where we will check in to our cosy accommodation.

Day 2

Guided hike and forest adventure park

The action starts today.  We start you off easily with a guided hike to explore Mont Tremblant and its surroundings.  We then have some free time for lunch before we take to the trees this afternoon in the adventure park.  Our tree to tree adventure includes challenges and zip wires suspended 25 to 75 feet above the ground.  A great first day of activity.

Day 3

White water rafting

Today we will head onto the waters of the Rouge River, regarding as one of the top ten rivers in North America for rafting.  This is a family trip with rapids up to grade 3, stops for swimming, bodysurfing and a riverside lunch are included.

Day 4

Duchesnay and bear watching

We will depart from Mont Tremblant after breakfast and be transferred to Sainte Catherine de la Jacques Cartier and check in to Duchesnay Resort in early afternoon.  We will have some free time to relax before being picked up for your bear watching experience.  We will have the opportunity to see the impressive black bears in their natural environment from a safe and non intrusive distance.

Day 5

GPS orienteering and kayaking

After breakfast the group will all take part in an orienteering race using GPS navigation and orientation.  We will need to search for various check points and complete a 2km off trail hike.

Later in the afternoon we will be taken on a guided kayak trip on Lake Joseph and we will be able to take in our delightful surroundings.

Day 6

Transfer to St Felicien

We will have some free time this morning for some optional activities before you head further North to Saint Felicien travelling through the Larentides Nature Reserve.  We will check in to our hotel and will need a good night's sleep before tomorrow.

Days 7 & 8

Zoo Sauvage

This is no ordinary zoo and don't think that you are going just as an observer and spectator, you'll get fully involved.  Almost 1000 animals can be seen in natural, wide open spaces.  We will go on a walking adventure in the land of the Caribou, canoeing at sunset and spend one night in a prospector tent.  A vintage camp fire meal, cooked on an open fire is included.

We will enjoy a campfire breakfast and try your best to observe moose at close quarters.  We will then follow trails around the zoo taking in the backstage elements that few people ever get to see.  After lunch we will depart and travel alongside the scenic Saguenay Fjord to reach Tadoussac at the estuary of the St. Lawrence River and Saguenay Fjord.  Approximate driving time is four hours and we will arrive at the hotel in the early evening.

Day 9

Sea kayaking and whale watching

After breakfast at the hotel you will be taken to a beach with easy access to the Saguenay Fjord.  We will each be given full instruction before launching your kayaks and going on a three hour guided tour.

In the afternoon we will be back on the water but don't worry, you won't have to power the boat yourselves this time.  We head out on a zodiac for a three hour whale watching cruise.  Whales are abundant in these waters and we'll join these majestic giants for the afternoon.

Day 10

Huron culture and transfer to Quebec City

In the morning we will take the short ferry to Baie Ste Catherine and drive through the picturesque Charlevoix region to Wendake just north of Quebec City.

We will arrive around noon and be welcomed to this traditional Huron Site, the most authentic recreation of an Indian Village in Quebec.  We will be given the opportunity to discover the history and culture of the Hurons.  We will visit the traditional Long House, see the sweating tents, giant teepee and smokehouses before having a traditional lunch and a Huron dance demonstration.

We will then continue on to Quebec City where you will be given a short orientation tour.  This evening is free for you to explore the cities many restaurants on your own.

Day 11

Quebec City is a World Heritage Site and celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2008. It's a spectacular place with the distinction of being the only walled city in North America.

getting there:

NB: These prices do not include flights.  Traditionally, tour operators have received preferential fares from airlines. However, given the current uncertainty over fuel prices and the huge availability on the internet, we believe it is now cheaper to source flights when you book your holiday.

Generally speaking, the earlier you book, the cheaper the flights.  We will still book flights on your behalf ensuring that you are fully protected financially under our ATOL (No.6865).

responsible travel

This family activity holiday is designed to showcase the best of Quebec's activities and landscapes whilst positively benefiting the local communities and economies. Our local suppliers put a great deal of emphasis on using accommodation and activity providers with well implemented policies regarding sustainability and the environment.

Where possible throughout this holiday we use smaller, locally owned accommodation and always use local activity providers. Our suppliers provide vital employment in rural areas of Quebec. Throughout the trip we encourage our clients immerse themselves in local cultures and traditions. We also encourage the learning of some basic French to allow for a better cultural exchange.

Restaurants and meals during activities combine as much local produce as possible. Through the tourism multiplier effect, this all helps to generate incomes and employment where the drift might otherwise be towards larger employment areas such as towns and cities.

The use of smaller businesses means that the tourism income, generated by our presence, stays where it should, in the local economy. We firmly believe in paying a fair price for all the services provided by our suppliers regardless of where they are in the world.

Our holidays rely on visiting beautiful and un-spoilt areas, and they don't come more un-spoilt than Quebec. Naturally we wish to maintain the natural settings in which we work, not just for the future of our company, but also for future generations. We always insist that our local providers are equally conscious of this need.

The holiday also provides the opportunity to visit the Centre for Conservation of Boreal Diversity at the St Felicien Wild Zoo where the day is spent exploring different Boreal environments and the conservation challenges they present. Guests will also experience the local heritage and spend the night in a traditional prospector tent.

This holiday also includes some close up encounters with spectacular animals. Guests observe whales and bears in as unobtrusive manner as possible. The knowledgeable guides describe the conservation and protection efforts that take place in the area to ensure the survival of species such as the blue whale and black bear.

As we also appreciate the importance of consistent demand to small rural communities, we also operate holidays in Quebec in winter.
