Veneto and the Asiago Plateau - Family Adventure
Graham Hyde - Aug 11
We have just returned from a fantastic time on the Asiago Plateau and extended return via Lake Constance and the Black Forest.
This was by far the best holiday I have had for a long time. The Hotel was great, along with the locals and our great guide Michela, who did a great job. (Please extend our thanks and gratitude as she was a great ambassador for the area and a great help with the Italian language. Please wish her good luck with her studies from us). The weather was super and very hot and the activities great fun.
The people we met were so friendly and were very helpful, usually when using my broken Italian, although I think English people in this area are not a common site, especially when my son and I went biking in the mountains and came across locals out walking and needed help with some local directions.
As I mentioned the Hotel was great and were always willing to help with any problems we had and assistance regarding the local area.
One special place I would advise all to visit is a lovely British/Italian/Austrian 1st World War cemetery in Cesuna followed by a meal and drink in the town.
Alex the guide on the bike tour was also a great guy and proved very helpful pointing out some great routes which we explored on one of our free days. (If possible please pass on our thanks to him). Also we had a local journalist with us on the ride and would if possible like to see the article she was going to write even if it is in Italian. I think Michela seemed to have some details.
Anyway I think you put a great trip together and you should be proud that you found a fascinating area for us to explore.
P.S On the drive up to the Plateau from Trento I took the short route SP133 road, I loved it as the views and road were stunning and challenging. My wife on the other hand went straight to the bar when we reached the hotel as she said she had never been so petrified. So if you do not like single track roads with shear drops to the valley floor below take the longer route.
