The beautiful island of Fuerteventura boasts over three thousand hours of sunshine annually and is only 100km from the North African Coast. This wonderfully warm climate is what made the Canary Islands such a popular holiday destination. It is the second largest of the Canary Island and was declared as a Biosphere reserve by UNESCO protecting the overdevelopment seen on some of the other islands.
Despite tourism being a relatively recent development on the island there is a well developed infrastructure with an 18 hole championship golf course, a water park, a zoo and miles of unspoilt white sandy beaches. You are based in El Cotillo which is a charming and rustic fishing village located in the North West of the island and slowly becoming a mecca for the surf community in particular.
Suitable for
Families with children aged 8 years and older (this does not preclude families with children younger than 8 but they may not be able to take part in all activities).
saturday: arrival and welcome
At the airport you will pick up your arranged car hire or alternatively you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in the small village of El Cotillo. A welcome meeting with your guide will be held this evening and the week’s programme discussed.
sunday: time to hit the surf!
Today you will have a full day’s surf lesson with an expert instructor. Depending on the weather conditions your guide will transport the group to the most suitable beach for beginners where you will practice the basics. This simple instruction will really help you when you get into the water. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and get advice from your guide during this introductory session.
monday: sea kayaking
This morning you will explore the local coastline using sea kayaks. Your guide will lead you along the shore highlighting points of interest and any local wildlife that can be seen. The activity is a really great way to gain a new perspective on this destination and appreciate the miles of beautiful beaches along the shore. After your kayak adventure there will be time for swimming and relaxing on the beach this afternoon.
tuesday: surfing day 2
You should have mastered the basics on Sunday so today you will learn some new, more difficult skills on the surf board. Your expert guide will be on hand to assist those who are still mastering the fundamental skills and to encourage and challenge those who are natural surfers.
wednesday: free day
Today we have left free for you to explore the local area. Mountain bikes can be hired from the hotel or alternatively you can use your hire car to discover a different part of this wonderful island. Alternatively, make use of the hotel’s fantastic swimming pool and terrace to enjoy a relaxing day.
thursday: stand up paddling
This is an up and coming activity which is already extremely popular on the island. Originally invented in Hawaii as a way for surf instructors to have better visibility over their group, many people now enjoy this sport in its own right and it has developed an increasingly large following.
friday: final surfing day, dude
Today you will have a final day of lessons to build on your new found surfing skills. Following these three days of lessons you should be very comfortable on the surf board and the braver individuals may even be able to attempt some tricks, with your instructor’s guidance, on some of the bigger waves. We recommend bringing a waterproof camera to record your achievements!
saturday - depart or extend your stay
Today it is time to leave this beautiful island. Alternatively we would be happy to discuss extension options with you either in El Cotillo or elsewhere on the Island.

Getting there
This holiday includes return flights from London to Fuerteventura (regional and flexible departures on request).
Fuerteventura has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Here they will combine development with respect for the environment and local traditions of the Island.
This holiday is based in the traditional fishing village of El Cotillo and is really a back to nature holiday combined with water based activities. El Cotillo is a very small, un-commercialised working town, located at the North West point of the Island far from any mass tourism. It is very popular with surfers and locals.
The accommodation on offer is locally owned and provides year round jobs for locals living in the El Cotillo and Le Jares area.
Our local suppliers work to make customers aware of their surrounding environment when walking/cycling in the area by making sure they do not stray from paths and cycle routes or leave waste on ecologically sensitive areas. This is particularly relevant on the beaches around the Northern point of the Island.
Our local partners are heavily integrated into the local community and all of our guides and drivers are from the surrounding area.
