Montenegro is beginning to receive some real global attention with glowing articles being written by publications such as Lonely Planet and Wanderlust about this varied and relatively untouched destination. The warm climate and temperate waters of the fjord next to Kotor makes the summer season here an extremely pleasant time to visit.
There’s a heavy Venetian influence evident in Kotor’s old town, a legacy of its past importance as a coastal trading port. The small winding streets with their ornate balconies overlooking the various squares in the town are beautiful.
For a country that’s about the size of Wales, Montenegro has more than it’s fair share of diverse landscapes ranging from turqoise seas to the dramatic scenery in the Durmitor National Park. We have developed an itinerary which will see you swim, hike, kayak and raft your way through these beautiful and unspoilt landscapes.
Suitable for
Families with children aged 8 years and older (this does not preclude families with children younger than 8 but they may not be able to take part in all activities).
saturday - arrival and welcome
You will be met at the airport and transfered to your accommodation to unpack before being driven to Kotor for a welcome meal in a local restaurant.
sunday - sea kayaking and snorkelling
This morning you will pair up in teams of two to kayak on the fjord. As you paddle along, your guide will point out fascinating buildings in the town and tell some legends about the local area. You will stop along the route on one of the fjord’s sandy beaches for swimming and snorkelling.
monday - lovcen monument and high ropes adventure park
Today you will visit one of the most beautiful areas in Montenegro. This monument was built to honour one of Montenegro’s most popular rulers who wanted to watch over the whole country after he died. This is a truly jaw dropping area and offers views across all of Montenegro’s borders. From here you will drive to a picnic area in the Lovcen National Park for a BBQ lunch, before enjoying a fantastic high ropes course.
tuesday - white water rafting
An early start this morning as you head up to the small town of Zabljak on Mount Durmitor. Upon your arrival at Tara River you will begin the rafting. The river cuts right through the Tara canyon making it a popular spot for rafting. It’s easy to see why this is Europe’s deepest river canyon and the scenery is nothing less than dramatic. A delicious lunch will be served after rafting and you will have the chance to explore the town of Zabljak.
wednesday - mount durmitor lake orienteering adventure
Today you will explore one of our favourite parts of this national park – Black and Snake Lakes. You will begin at Black Lake and follow the trail around the perimeter, weaving in and out of the forest paths. These woodland paths give you the chance to see lots of local wildlife. You will then test your orienteering skills to find the nearby Snake Lake.
thursday - hiking in the national park and return to the coast
After breakfast you will set off to find some of the National Park’s best view points. After a few short hikes you are rewarded with glorious vistas across this dramatic landscape. You will then begin the journey back to Kotor and have the afternoon free before an evening meal in the old town.
friday - montenegro coastline
Today you will visit some of the picturesque beaches around Kotor by car and spend several hours at each. It is possible to snorkel in the crystal clear waters, enjoy a cooling swim or spend the last day relaxing in the sun with a good book. This evening a farewell meal will be served in a local restaurant for a chance to reflect on the weeks adventures.
saturday - depart or extend your stay
We wouldn’t blame you for extending your stay here and if you would like a quotation please give us a call!
