Ali is going to Tuscany

Steph is going to Asiago

Barry is going to Slovenia

Sue is going to Alps Maritimes

The British press are determined to come up with as many reasons as possible to deter us from going on holiday this summer.

Well, we refuse to be deterred because we have four reasons to be cheerful:

  • The Pound is rising, the Euro is falling (Hurrah!)
  • The ash cloud is receding
  • We don't go to any BA destinations
  • We don't visit any unrest hotspots such as Thailand

There is nothing to stop us and nothing will. So, to demonstrate a bit of confidence in our own products, here is where we are going this summer.

We work too hard not too!

Best regards
The Activities Abroad Team

  Ali is going to Tuscany

Our boss Ali McLean is heading to Tuscany this weekend. He's not usually one for going to the same place twice but as this is the fourth time he and his family have been on our Tuscan Activity Holiday there's obviously a certain allure.

"What's not to love? The accommodation is set high in the hills above the small town of Vinci, birthplace of Leonardo. The apartments are charming and rustic, the garden and pool enjoy unimaginable views over the Tuscan countryside and it's simply a wonderful place to relax.

If we can drag ourselves away from the pool, then there's mountain biking, walking, climbing, canyoning, wonderful food and wine and the most beautiful city in the world, Florence, is just a 45 minute drive away".

  Steph is going to Asiago

Our colleague Steph is a girl who enjoys a bit of pampering after a tough day in the Great Outdoors so she too is heading for Italy.

"I visited the Hotel Gaarten briefly last year and resolved to come back for a longer stay this summer. I can't wait to go rafting on the River Brenta or horse riding across the Asiago Plateau but it’s lovely to know I can return to a top class hotel afterwards. A massage in the spa is just reward for my endeavours during the day".

  Barry is going to Slovenia

Despite a turbulent past, Slovenia's Soca Valley is one of the most serene and stunning destinations we feature. The holiday is based in the lovely village of Kobarid with accommodation in the best hotel in the entire valley. This is the holiday choice for our Director Barry Nolan and his children.

"My kids just wanted to go back to Slovenia this year. They love the river and the watersports such as white water rafting, canyoning and kayaking. So do I but as I get older, there's also a certain attraction to visiting the wonderful restaurant at Hisa Franco and sampling the superb yet little known Slovenian wines. There's something for all of us here in Slovenia."

Sue is going to the Alps Maritimes

The valley that tourism forgot! How does somewhere just a couple of hours from Provence and an hour north of Nice remain so undiscovered? It's been a mystery to us ever since we started featuring the Roya Valley way back in 2002.

This is where Sue McLean and family are headed this summer.

"I've not been to the Roya Valley before but my colleagues keep ranting and raving about this still amazingly untouched corner of France so this year I'm going to find out what the fuss is all about. My kids have reached an age where they need to be entertained and active on holiday and, having tried it last year, they are desperate to go canyoning again. The Roya Valley is legendary in canyoning circles so they shouldn't be disappointed. I'll blame my colleagues if they are!".

Activities Abroad Ash Cloud Policy

Our Ash Cloud policy and is now on our website for anyone who has already booked a holiday with us or is interested in doing so in the future.

The policy covers every eventuality. We would like to reassure clients and for you to be aware that the situation is constantly improving.

For example, under new regulations made during the last two days Flybe would have had to cancel only 21 flights as opposed to the 380 flights under the previous regulations. This would have meant that less than three per cent of its total programme would have been affected under the new guidelines. We at Activities Abroad are extremely hopeful that this will have a minimum level of impact on our summer departures.
