Slovenia has been a favourite family activity holiday destination with our clients and staff alike for many years and with good reason. This area of the Julian Alps is utterly idyllic and the waters of River Soča provide an incredible playground for a wide range of exciting activities.
Our holiday here is based in a family-run guesthouse, around a twenty-minute walk from the traditional Slovenian village of Kobarid. The warm welcome and excellent restaurant here are well known throughout the region and half board is part of your stay (packed lunches are also included with the activities).
Your hosts for the week are Thomas and Tamara, whose passion for the region and the activities is infectious. Their complete focus on safety is what sets them apart in this region and the relationship they build with our guests is fantastic.
Throughout your holiday in Slovenia, you will have the chance to experience the best activities on offer in this very special valley. Our handy flexible activity selection lets you and the children choose what you’d like to do best, from exploring on land during a fun-filled hike and rafting on the crystal clear waters of the River Soča to sliding and swimming down a canyon, and learning how to climb and abseil.
This holiday includes return flights to Ljubljana and car hire for the week. Car hire is essential for this trip as you will require a vehicle to reach the activity start point each day. There is also much to see and do in the surrounding area and having a car offers you a great degree of freedom!

Agenda
Show full agenda-
Day 1 Arrival and Welcome
Upon arrival at the airport you will collect your hire car and make your way to the spectacular Soca Valley, your base for the week.
A welcome meal will be served at the guesthouse this evening and you will meet with your guide to discuss the week ahead and the activities your family will be enjoying.
Included Meals: Dinner -
Day 2 Exploration Trek and High Ropes
This morning’s activity is designed to introduce you to the nearby town of Kobarid and the surrounding area. After some team building games and a spot of orienteering, you will head to the high ropes course for an exciting time exploring the treetops – the suspended zip wires and obstacles are thrilling and an excellent challenge for your family. After you’ve enjoyed your packed lunch you will walk back along the Soca River to your hotel.
In the afternoon you will drive to the beautiful Nadeesha River for swimming, volleyball and a chance to try the ancient art of Slovenian sumo wrestling!
This activity lasts around six hours.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -
Day 3 Canyoning
After breakfast you will drive approximately 10km to the Susec Canyon which, in our opinion, is one of the best in the Soca Valley. It has numerous slides, jumps, climbs and abseils along with two stunning 15 metre waterfalls.
Thomas has endless experience in the canyon and either he or one of his handpicked local guides, will be on hand throughout, demonstrating the correct techniques and giving instruction – he also knows all of the best sections of the canyon so you are sure to enjoy this exhilarating experience. Descending the canyon should take around four hours and the activity begins with an uphill walk to get to the start point of the canyon so you can begin the awesome descent.
Afterwards you have some time to drive further north to the town Bovec and explore the beautiful landscape that surrounds it.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -
Day 4 Mini Rafting
Today you will explore the lower stretch of the Soca River from Kobarid to Gabrje on a lovely gentle journey, ending close to the Most na Soci Lake. As you make your way downstream in your mini rafts (younger children can share with their parents; two to three people per raft), your guide will discuss the local area with you and play some games en route. A BBQ lunch is included as well as some time for swimming and relaxing in this beautiful location.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -
Day 5 Climbing and Abseiling
This morning, a private transfer will take you into Italy, a short drive away, for a morning of climbing the mountainside and then abseiling back down! Following full instruction you will spend a few hours developing your skills and confidence, reaching the top of the mountain and enjoying the thrill of abseiling back to the bottom. This activity is set in a beautiful area which is a great place to relax for the remainder of the day. The climbing and abseiling normally lasts around five hours.
Please note, your car insurance does not cover you for crossing the border, which is why a transfer is arranged on this day.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -
Day 6 Free Day
Today is free for you to explore on your own. You can enjoy the valley, explore the town or try some additional activities (bookable and payable locally).
Your hire car provides the freedom to venture a little further; the Tolminka Gorge is a stunning location that we highly recommend just up the valley. If you fancy a real adventure then, depending on the timetable, it may be possible to visit Lake Bohinj as there is a train (onto which you can book your car) from nearby Most na Soci to Bohinj.
Included Meals: Breakfast -
Day 7 White-Water Rafting
Back on the Soca River it is time to enjoy the activity for which the river is most renowned, white-water rafting. In rafts of approximately eight people, you will work together to negotiate the rapids of the river, which will take around three to four hours. There are also some calmer stretches of water where you can soak up the views. This evening a farewell dinner will be served so you can all gather together and reflect on the week.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner -
Day 8 Departure
Sadly, the time has come to leave Slovenia and everyone will drive back to the airport. It is of course possible to extend your stay and we will be happy to make the necessary flights arrangements for you and extend your car hire if you want to explore further; simply contact us for a quotation.

The Specifics
Holiday group size (approximate)
Minimum 4 persons, maximum 28 persons (approximately)
Group Size
We always try to provide an approximation of the group size you can expect to be with for the duration of each of our holidays. It may be that you are joined by others for parts of your holiday (such as transfers and particular activities) but the above number reflects those you can normally expect to be with from beginning to end. If group size is something which is particularly important to you, please speak to our Travel Experts and they can suggest the best holidays for you.
Tailor-made holiday group sizes will vary for all activities as will the group size for any additional activities you book.
Minimum numbers required for a holiday to operate
Some of our holidays require a minimum number of participants to operate (as listed in the ‘Group Size’ section). If your holiday departure has not yet reached the minimum number, you will be told at the time of booking. In the unlikely event that your chosen date is not guaranteed by nine weeks before your scheduled departure date, we will contact you to discuss the available options as per our booking conditions.
Minimum and maximum age
The minimum age for this holiday can be found in the ‘Key Facts’ section of the holiday overview.
Younger family members may be able to participate but may not be able to take part in all activities. Please contact one of our Travel Experts if you have any questions.
Itinerary amendments
The order of activities listed in this agenda is provided for guidance only, your final and detailed itinerary will be provided either with your final travel documents (which are uploaded into your online account around a week prior to departure) or upon arrival.
Medical History and Advice
We want our holidays to be accessible as they can be and will do our best to accommodate any special requests and requirements where possible. We have a wide range of holidays and destinations and so our travel experts will help find the best holiday for you.
In order to give us the best possible chance to do this we ask that if you or any member of your party has any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday or has any special requirements, that you tell us at the time of enquiry or booking. You must also promptly advise us if any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday develops after your booking has been confirmed. You may need to provide a doctor’s note and proof of insurance in some cases as the health and safety of our clients is absolutely paramount.
In providing this information you are allowing us to work with our expert local partners to ensure that your whole party can enjoy the holiday. By letting us know in advance we can discreetly work with you to adapt any part of the holiday which may potentially be challenging. Being able to prepare for this in advance makes an incredible difference to what we can offer and minimises any impact on your party and the rest of the group.
Unfortunately, if you choose not to share this information with us in advance then it may limit some or all of the itinerary you have booked, and we cannot be held accountable for any additional costs or missed activities resulting from this.
It is vitally important that you advise us prior to departure of any medical or dietary condition relating to any member of your party so that we may notify our local staff before you arrive. We recommend only drinking bottled water from bottles with unbroken seals and be vigilant about the use of ice in drinks and ice cream.
Insurance
Insurance is not included in your holiday, but it is a pre-requisite to travelling with us. You will need to ensure that you have cover for all the activities that you will be participating in during your holiday.
It is extremely important that you take out a suitable travel insurance policy at the time of booking. Plans do sometimes change, and you will need this policy should you need to cancel your holiday.
If you are struggling to find a suitable policy then details of our preferred provider, who will cover you for all the activities we offer, can be found on our website by clicking here. Please note that this policy is available to EU residents under the age of 75 only.
The UK Foreign Office Advice
Our clients’ safety is at the centre of everything we do, and our operations team continually assesses and monitors the destinations we feature. We carry out thorough risk assessments and work closely with all of our suppliers to continually follow best practice. For up to date travel advice the UK government offers its Travel Aware website as well as the advice detailed below.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office Advice
We receive all updates from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) with regards to travel advice and we always ensure that we follow this advice in our operations. The FCO issues travel advisories for countries based on a very wide range of factors. They may provide notification about things as simple as a football match and crowds, or they may go so far as to advise against all travel to a region. We ask all our clients to refer to the relevant Travel Advice by Country for the destinations they are visiting in order to make an informed decision on the safety of the destination based on the details provided. It also provides vital information regarding entry requirements, embassy information, local laws and customs as well as specific safety and health. Guests should take responsibility for keeping themselves up to date with this advice. Please also ensure that, if you are transiting through another country, you have read the advice and meet the entry requirements for that destination too.
The FCO travel advice is applicable to British Passport Holders. Most governments will issue their own travel advice for a region and, if you are not a UK resident then you can find some helpful links below:
Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/
New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade http://www.safetravel.govt.nz/
Canadian Consular Affairs Bureau http://voyage.gc.ca/
The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english.html
If the FCO deems that there is an unacceptable level of risk for UK citizens then, together with the government, they may issue an advisory against all travel to a region or country. If such an advisory is published, then we will act accordingly, and this may require the cancellation, curtailment or amendment of a holiday itinerary. These decisions are made on the basis of ensuring our clients’ safety and will affect all clients on the holiday, regardless of their nationality.
If one of our local experts suggests an amendment due to a situation which develops locally then we may also take the decision to amend an itinerary appropriately.
If we have to cancel your holiday prior to departure you will be offered the option of an alternative trip (where any price difference will either be refunded to or covered by you) or a full refund of the monies paid.
If we have to curtail a holiday, then you will be refunded for any costs for the elements we have been unable to deliver, where we have been able to secure a refund from our suppliers. If we must reroute a holiday, then any basis for refund is determined on a case by case basis and dependent on whether the central holiday experience was provided or not.
Booking activities locally
Additional activities can be booked locally in almost all our destinations. However, as per our booking conditions, we cannot be held responsible for any injury or loss incurred through participation in activities which are booked at your destination outside of our holiday itinerary (see our ‘Terms and Conditions’ for further details).
When arranging any such activity please always ensure that safety is your primary concern.
In some of our destinations, you can borrow or hire equipment for use in your free time. You do so entirely at your own risk. You must ensure that you are correctly prepared, have the necessary equipment and knowledge (maps, etc.) and ensure that where applicable, you follow marked routes. We recommend discussing your plans with the local teams who will be able to advise on the most suitable options for you.
Always let the reception/guide know where you are planning to go and take a torch and mobile phone (with the hotel/guide’s phone number stored). It is also a good idea to leave your contact number and the time you expect to return to the hotel should the hotel need to contact you.
Flight schedule changes and connecting transportation
On your documentation, we will confirm your flight schedule. Sometimes the flight number, routing and timings might change prior to your departure. If the change is classed as a significant change then we will contact you to discuss this. Please see our booking conditions for details.
Flight schedule changes can impact on your pre and post-holiday travel arrangements if these have been booked separately to your holiday. We strongly recommend that you do not book transport (such as trains or transfers), car parking or non-connecting flights to the departure point for your holiday until you have received your final confirmed travel times when your final travel documents are issued. We are not responsible for the effect of any schedule change on your pre or post travel arrangements. We strongly recommend that you do not purchase non-flexible or non-refundable tickets to avoid cancellation and penalty charges.
Booking your own flights cancellation disclaimer
If you have chosen to book your own flights, then you will need to wait until we confirm to you that the holiday departure has met the minimum numbers required to run (if applicable to your chosen holiday). Once the holiday is guaranteed to run, you will be informed and you can then make your arrangements.
If transfers are included in your holiday, please ensure that any potential flights will be met by our standard transfers (speak to one of our Travel Experts for advice) otherwise private transfer supplements may be applicable. Once your flights are booked, please send us a copy of your detailed flight itinerary.
Please be aware that most tickets are non-refundable in the case of cancellation. For this reason, we strongly advise you check the rules of the ticket and check the limitations of your cancellation insurance before booking. We cannot be held liable, in the unlikely eventuality that we should be forced to cancel or amend your trip, for losses incurred relating to any flight booking you have made.

Great family holiday with teenage children 13 August 2016 by Valerie Wheeler
Wonderful unspoilt area, excellent accommodation, Sat Nav really useful for driving in from the airport and exploring locally, local guide and activity guides all amazing. Nice to have activities in the mornings and afternoons to explore at leisure with or without other families. Vegan in our group well catered for at the hotel. Couldn't choose (most enjoyable activity) between white water rafting…
Read more and canyoning as both amazing. Loved exploring Bovec and zip wire, rivers and waterfalls on free day. Great family holiday with teenage children. Good value too with inclusive meals and activities.

The service was very good indeed; everyone was very friendly... 22 August 2015 by Andrew Quixley
I found everyone I spoke to in the office extremely helpful in the run up to the holiday. They understood my special requirements in terms of taking my severely autistic son on this trip and I found their reassurance that he would be fine a big help. The fact that several of the people I spoke to had been on the trip themselves, knew the activities, the accommodation and the guides, gave me…
Read more confidence in what I was letting us in for! The transfer from the airport on arrival went like clockwork; our driver was waiting for us and was clearly visible (although the airport is small!). She even warned us that motion sickness might be an issue before we started, due to the steep hills and hairpin bends en route. I thought she might have been exaggerating, but two hours later (and feeling slightly nauseous!) I understood exactly what she meant! I found the accommodation to be very good quality and very comfortable. The service was very good indeed; everyone was very friendly and easy to understand. Although there were no options at dinner, everything that was offered was good and there were 100% clean plates through the week for me and my son! One of the other families in our group had fairly fussy kids, but the hotel was easily able to adapt to their foibles and keep them all happy. The guides were all very capable and confident, and one felt that they always had everything under control and everyone was safe. Tomas and Gregor deserve special mentions; Tomas is certainly a character and everyone warmed to him from the outset. If only the water in the rivers and canyons wasn't quite so cold and that bloody zip line platform so hard ;-) P.S. I didn't get a brochure because I didn't want or need one; I found everything I needed from the web site or by talking to people in the sales and/or support teams - all of whom were very approachable, knowledgeable and helpful. It always felt like they cared - particularly about making sure my autistic son would be OK, which is obviously a big deal for me. Many thanks.

Our activities leader was great - very reassuring and gave us all confidence in the activities 08 August 2015 by Catherine Firth
Thomas our activities leader was great - very reassuring and gave us all confidence in the activities, adapting what we did do, there being just us. He brought along his son to join in with our boys which they all enjoyed. The canyoning - really exciting - challenging yet adapted to the levels of bravery of each member of the group.

Beautiful location 09 August 2012 by Maria Bannon
Beautiful location and fantastic guides. In fact everyone we met was welcoming friendly and helpful - from the charming man who drove us from the airport to our rep Tomas, the brilliant, patient and professional guides who challenged us but made us feel safe at all times. Also the delightful hotel staff.Hard to choose (a favourite activity) as we enjoyed everything. Rafting and canyoning were…

All in all a great week 23 July 2012 by Kathryn Maynard
The Trip to Bovec in Slovenia was one of the best holidays we have been on. Searching for activities online we came across Activities abroad and the suggested location of Slovenia (which to be honest we didn't know much about). What a beautiful country, with just stunning scenery up in the mountains. Definitely a well-kept secret of a country! The itinerary arranged by Activities abroad, was great,…
Read more challenging in some parts, but also flexible to fit around our needs. The local partners and guides they work with were first class, and made the experience even better. For you thrill seekers out there, Hydro-speeding and Canyoning are a must, but keep your hands covered as the Soca is cold, even though the surround temperatures were around 34 degrees! The accomodation was new, nice and clean, plus the staff were friendly. All in all a great week.

Absolutely fabulous! 10 September 2010 by Matthew Murphy
Day 1 Finally made it through security at Stansted airport having waited for the passenger in front to try and explain that 15 types of perfume really were necessities! Met up with the group and our amazing bus driver Joseph who skilfully negotiated hair raising mountain bends and perilous precipices whilst enlightening us to Slovenia’s entire history since 1800s (to) land us safely; I am very…
Read more relieved to say - (thanks Joseph!!) At our hotel, which sported fabulous alpine views, we met downstairs for and epic meal. (We met) our lovely guide, Thomas, and sampled some super Slovenian wine, which slipped down a treat at 2 Euros a litre; hmm may regret this tomorrow especially as Thomas explained he is ex-SAS. What are we in for!!Day 2 I realised this morning that the bus drive yesterday was scant preparation for the journey to our hiking spot on narrow roads with spectacular drops! It was worth it though for the splendid views and the delicious lunch that included fresh home grown tomatoes, bread, cheese and yet more Slovenian wine, homemade too. We needed the incredibly strong sweet coffee that followed but for good measure a shot of peach schnapps completed the meal. Just as well we had already had the team building games fun! We were less convinced by the charmingly unusual festival we stumbled across thinking perhaps we did have a few too many as the children appeared to be blissfully making mud pies in their birthday suits surrounded by very chilled people playing wooden flutes but hey it’s all part of the experience! Despite our slightly sloshed state we trekked through a gorge, braved a freezing cave and a rickety, which is a major understatement, bridge with missing planks to see the natural springs. They were beautiful. It seems to be a re-occurring theme in Slovenia that the better the end experience the greater the challenge to reach it! Of course further refreshment was needed after this activity and...oh dear wine only 0.60c. Well who could refuse!Day 3It's raining! It doesn’t matter to us though as we are going rafting so we are getting wet anyway! Quite why we needed to change into wall to wall rubber suiting before attempting a treacherous descent down almost vertical steps and slopes carrying a raft I am not sure but it was amusing for the onlookers anyway! On reaching the milky green water we pitched in as directed, shocked by the chill of the water we then slithered gasping into the raft only for some of us to be pitched almost immediately out again as the raft set of. The river took us to a stunning section where part of Narnia was filmed and then a thunderstorm broke. Having survived the white waters I took a hike with one of the team to Svino, the next village, very pretty then we all enjoyed a traditional Slovenian dinner intending to retire early to limber up for the event of tomorrow tubing but then someone suggested a few card games and well we were all enjoying ourselves so much let’s just say it was probably good that tubing wasn’t until the afternoon! Day 4I think out of control ducklings but far less elegant would go some way to describing our appearance as we careered down the rapids crashing into the river bank and bouncing out of the tubes. However, it was hilarious and enormous fun. The best activity so far! They even fortified us with hot chocolate afterwards. Day 5Today was free so a few of us chose to hire a car and drive the short distance across the border to the Italian coast of Sishana, alongside the river Soza. After a lazy lunch we swam and sunbathed near the marina before some of us sampled cocktails at the beach bar. Just before leaving we headed up the hill for some Gelato Italian ice cream. Mmmm! Then back to the hotel for a lovely meal in their speciality fish restaurant. Day 6 We are doing culture today, Joseph would be pleased. We hiked a historical trail over Napolean bridge and up to the Slap Kozac, a spectacular waterfall. We then took what seemed like a huge detour up an even huger hill to see the Italian line of defence bunkers. Descent was by Kayak with scenic views, at least when we managed to stay the right way up in the kayaks! Many of us fell out and were mercilessly ribbed by those that didn’t who were then accused of having the benefit of added personal padding which stuck them fast into the kayaks. How very dare they!! It almost put me off my pumpkin soup followed by steak and spiced pear, but not quite. Day 7Canyoning was awesome! Amazing slides, abseils and a 30ft jump into a cave slide and waterfall. Absolutely fabulous! Day 8Our last morning :( A few of us decided to go riding. We had a lovely trek across the soca river, (which was) very relaxing except for the small argument I had with a horses hoof. Thankfully no real harm done so we set off back for lunch and the airport I now look forward to the next Activities abroad brochure to see what on offer for next year!
