Trips to Austria
An Austrian playground
67 kilometres long, with more than 250 mountain summits reaching over 3000 metres in height, the Oetz Valley is Austria’s ultimate family activity playground. Summer sees its fabulous ski slopes turn into great green hiking trails, with rivers gushing away as rafts and canoes descend the rapids. Here, 820 metres above sea level at the base of the Acherkogel Mountain, is Oetz: a web of pretty buildings spreading out from a centre filled with 16th century architecture. The village is ringed by tall pine forests and glorious panoramas.
Meandering by is the Ötztaler Ache, an excellent river for all kinds of water sports. You’ll be splashing away on championship waters, as this river has been used year after year for kayaking competitions!
Not far off is the gleaming Piburger Lake – one of the warmest mountain lakes in the region, making it perfect for a swim. There are waving meadows and countryside all around with networks of cycling paths; higher above are vast glaciers that stand against the horizon.
Come on our Oetz Valley family holiday and you’ll find that the hills are very much alive – not with the sound of music, but with the sound of fun-filled activities!
Pick and mix itinerary
One thing you’ll particularly like about our Oetz Valley holiday is that you get to craft your own itinerary. Having booked, you’ll receive sixteen ‘activity points’ per person – more may be purchased separately – and you can spend them to put together a programme, which is confirmed on arrival. Best of all, many activities are set at different levels, so you can find exactly the one to suit your abilities.
We have a real alpine pick and mix on offer! How about powering through Imst Gorge in a rafting session with instructors showing you how to ride the rapids?Read more
Maybe you’d like to go on natural water slides and abseil rocky walls? In which case take a look at the canyoning courses, which range from short and simple to the justly-named ‘Ultimo XXL’ – the name speaks for itself! Leave the water behind and take to the heights of a high rope course, with enough swinging and treetop fun to make Tarzan green with envy. On the ground, you can mountain bike and try your hand at archery, or clamber up an icy glacier to enjoy your first mountaineering experience.
Oetz, your way
This is by far one of our most popular holidays: the first time we featured it on our website, places were snapped up in the blink of an eye! This trend continues (although we do have more accommodation to offer now) but we strongly recommend you book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Part of the appeal of this holiday is the chance to put together your own adventure, which is very satisfying indeed; the selection of activity levels allows your family to keep within their comfort zone – or to blast out of it!Read more
If you’ve never rafted or gone canyoning before, they are definitely worth giving a try. Imst Gorge not only has a selection of fast and slow-paced stretches of water, but is extremely picturesque, making it the best place to learn the art of rafting. As for canyoning, we would describe that as heading to Nature’s waterpark: slides, pools, and slopes provide all-round thrills!
