Why go abroad when you can have your fill of adventure against a backdrop as dramatic as our very own Lake District.
More and more people are travelling from other countries in Europe and beyond to experience what the Lakes have to offer and yet it can often by overlooked by the English in their scramble to go overseas for a holiday.
I certainly did not hesitate when I had the opportunity to visit and sample the hospitality and activities on offer and I knew it was not a decision I would regret from the moment I was tucking into my first meal on arrival.

I am a very lucky girl and I get to visit a lot of wonderful places as part of my job.
Normally the reaction I get from friends and families is of general jealousy and gentle teasing about how hard it is to work in tourism but when I said I was going to Croatia it brought on a wave of blatant begging and pleading to see if they could accompany me and sneak into my suitcase!

Quality Charter
AITO is the Association for independent and specialist holiday companies. Our member companies, usually owner-managed, strive to create overseas holidays with high levels of professionalism and a shared concern for quality and personal service. The Association encourages the highest standards in all aspects of tour operating.
EXCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP
AITO sets criteria regarding ownership, finance and quality which must be satisfied before new companies are admitted to membership. All members are required to adhere to a Code of Business Practice which encourages high operational standards and conduct.
FINANCIAL SECURITY
An AITO member is required to arrange financial protection for all holidays and other arrangements (including accommodation only) booked by customers with the member under the AITO logo. This financial protection applies to customers who are resident in the UK at the time of booking and to most overseas customers who have booked directly with the member. In doing so, the member must comply with UK Government regulations. Members are required to submit details of their financial protection arrangements to AITO on a regular basis.
ACCURATE BROCHURES AND WEBSITES
All members do their utmost to ensure that all their brochures and other publications, print or electronic, clearly and accurately describe the holidays and services offered.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AND CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENTS
All members are committed to high standards of service and believe in regular and thorough training of employees. Members continually seek to review and improve their holidays. They listen to their customers and always welcome suggestions for improving standards.
MONITORING STANDARDS
AITO endeavours to monitor quality standards regularly. All customers should receive a post-holiday questionnaire, the results of which are scrutinised by the Association.
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Members acknowledge the importance of AITOs Sustainable Tourism ethos, which recognises the social, economic and environmental responsibilities of tour operating.
CUSTOMER RELATIONS
All members endeavour to deal swiftly and fairly with any issues their customers may raise. In the unlikely event that a dispute between an AITO member and a customer cannot be settled amicably, AITO's low-cost Independent Dispute Settlement Service may be called upon by either side to bring the matter to a speedy and acceptable conclusion.

Graham was lucky enough to travel a lot as a child including living in the Solomon Islands in the Pacific. Here he learnt to snorkel off the pristine beaches and explore the wonderful coral reefs. Back on dry land the forest was a gigantic playground and during the rainy season the bottom of the garden became a mud slide.

Favourite Experiences
- Graham's favourite winter destination is Brandon Lodge overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia and the thousands of islands stranded in the frozen ocean. His favourite part of this holiday was experiencing a hovercraft tour and witnessing the huge formations of pack ice up close.
- Graham has experienced both our Turkey and Portugal holidays where he put himself on the line so that he can offer great advice to our clients. His favourite summer activities are sea-kayaking above the sunken ruins of Kekova in Turkey and cycling along the cliff tops of the Alentejo Coast where giant storks build their gravity-defying nests.
- His favourite food in Portugal was octopus stew and the fantastic strawberry jam croissants from the local bakery in Milfontes, and in Turkey he loved the great pide (Turkish pizza) and baklava in Kas.
- Graham also loved experiencing the thrilling activity of canyoning in the Catalan Pyrenees.
- Sampling the vibrant culture of Morocco
